5 Smoothie Recipes for Clear Skin

Lately I've been trying my hardest to make every meal as balanced and healthy as possible. We only get one body, so we have to take care of it!

I recently picked up "Eat Pretty, Live Well", by innovative health coach Jolene Hart, and the way I look at food will never be the same. Hart gives a new take on the term " you are what you eat" . She reveals our food choices significantly affect our beauty and overall well being. After finishing her book, I realized I've been neglecting my health and the evidence is written all over my face in blemishes.

In a weird way I find comfort knowing I can control how I look and feel by making the right food choices. However, being health conscience with my schedule is far from easy. That's where Smoothies come in. They're the perfect way to get a nutrient balanced "meal" in a quick and delicious way.  The combinations for the perfect smoothie are endless and can be tailored to benefit all your beauty needs. With a great resource like "Eat Pretty, Live Well" I've been able to come up with several recipes for what I consider to be "Beauty Smoothies":

1.Strawberry Ginger Delight

This is more of a juice than a smoothie but it's delicious and beautifying all the same.

-5 Strawberries

- Handful of Kale

-Half Lemon peeled

- Ginger powder

-1 1/2 Cup Coconut Water

Chop Strawberries, Kale, Lemon. Place Kale in the blender first with fruit and coconut water on top. Blend ingredients and enjoy. Serving size: 16oz

Strawberries boost collagen production for tighter, younger looking skin. Kale is high in Vitamin A, which heals and clears skin by boosting cell turnover. Lemon is high in vitamin C, which supports collagen production. Lemon is also great for flushing impurities out of the body. Ginger reduces inflammation (large, angry pimples) and slows signs of aging. Lastly, Coconut water is one of the best hydrators while supporting healthy skin, hair, and nails.

2. The PinaCado

This creamy and sweet drink is the perfect way to start the day.

- 1 ripe Avocado

-2 cups pineapple (chopped, frozen)

-2 cups Spinach

- 2 cups coconut water

Blend Spinach and coconut water together to form a smooth liquid. Add fruit, blend again and enjoy.

Avocado detoxifies the body and hydrates the skin. Pineapple supports healthy, strong hair while flattening the belly. Spinach is great for overall cell repair. Coconut water adds moisture and deliciousness.

3.BeetRoot Beauty

This smoothie is great for skin, hair, and nails. You might want to wear gloves when preparing as beets tend to stain hands.

- 1 Pomegranate

- 2 beets

- 10 red grapes

Remove seeds from pomegranate/grapes and blend. Juice remaining ingredients except for lemon. Squeeze lemon into glass, stir ingredients together, and enjoy.

Pomegranate boosts blood flow to the skin creating healthy, natural glow. Beets detoxifies and reverses the signs of aging while promoting hair and nail growth. Grapes protect DNA health, while reducing water retention aka water weight.

4. Popeye's Juice

Spinach isnt just for strength.

-2 Handfuls Spinach

-1/2 Pineapple

-2 Handfuls Raspberries

Blend all ingredients together and enjoy

Raspberries support healthy hair and nails. Spinach is great for overall cell repair healing blemish faster. Pineapple supports healthy, strong hair while flattening the belly.

5.The Orange Healer

A head to toe boost of vitamins your skin will love.

-4 Carrots

-1 Red Apple

-1 Sweet Potato

Blend all ingredients together and enjoy

Carrots and Sweet Potatoes are loaded with Vitamin A which promotes healthy skin renewal. The red apple contains Vitamin C which builds collagen for brighter, younger looking skin

In addition to a plant based diet, juicing has changed my skin for the better. My go to recipe for my morning smoothie contains Spinach (supports cell repair), Strawberries (boosts collagen production), Blueberries (supports youthful skin), Flaxseeds (detoxifies), SunflowerSeeds (supports healthy skin), Almond Milk (skin hydration), and all natural Almond Butter (protein).

What are some ingredients you like to add to your smoothies ?
